Nutrition & Public Health Program
To ensure program sustainability , we will be hosting 2 weeks Special Programs, aimed at delivering innovative public health and nutrition education to a large group of people, ensuring excellent program content and satisfation for volunteers and the people of Fiji. We will cover at least 3 of the following within the 2 weeks.
1. Village Health - Health Screening, Health Attitudes & Behavior Survey, Analysis, Outcome presentation,Counseling, Guides, etc
2. School Health & Wellness - School Nutrition Impact Education - "Sugar Shocker", "Protein Shake", "Get Fit" are all part of ACATA School Health Programs that educates thousands of kids on healthy eating habits. School Program also includes professional development and exercise programs for teachers.
3. Public Health Screening & counseling - Random Public health checks and health promotions in urban areas
4. Corporate Health Programs - Staff Health Screenings, Goal Setting, & Counseling
5. Public Health Research – The Prevalence of Abdominal Obesity and NCD risk in Fiji and topics of interest are open for survey.
6. Optional – Stay at home Mother’s Health (*Depending on volunteer hours)
Project Duration & Structure
Volunteers are required to spend at least 10 working days on the program
Our Program Director will be able to arrange group holiday programs during weekends and towards project end. However, this is not included in the program cost.
About the Nutrition & Public Health Projects Fiji
LOCATION
Our project partners are based in Nadi, Fiji and projects are carried out in schools, villages, communities and corporates throughout Fiji. Special projects can be done on other islands of Fiji, depending on the project & partner needs
Accommodation
The volunteers with ACATA Trust will be placed with local host families.
Accommodations in Villages will be more communal and will reflect the Fijian lifestyle.
FIJI VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers need to be 18 years or over to participate, and have some education or interest in Nutrition or Health Science, Sports & Fitness or public Health. All volunteers are required to have their own volunteer travel insurance.
FREE INTERACTIVE VOLUNTEER TRAINING
All volunteers will undergo intensive training on local healthy behaviors, food and culture, safety and accommodation & travel arrangements, including code of conduct. The training is designed to build an understanding of important aspects that need to be considered to be a safe, responsible and valuable volunteer.
HOW MANY OTHER VOLUNTEERS WILL THERE BE?
A minimum of 8 volunteers per trip to ensure program quality. What does this mean for you? More people to socialize and travel with, more people to meet from different cultures, more people to volunteer with, more projects to work on, better infrastructure for volunteers and more guidance.
DRESS CODE
Formal or semi-formal dressing required at all times. Conservative dressing is mandatory in schools, villages and corporates.
Fiji has a warm climate from November to April and the night gets a wee bit cooler from May to October
